Break the Routine

Work, home, sleep. Work, home, sleep. Work…

There’s got to be something more.

It is very easy to get caught up in a routine, where every day blurs into the next because they’re all alike. People that work from home tend to experience this more, because the boundaries are even thinner. You’ll be doing your thing as always, then suddenly realize the last time you saw any of your friends was three or four weeks ago.

People are wired to be social. Even if you’re an introvert, you still need some in-person human contact every once in a while. A change of scenery—especially if you’re with friends—can recharge your batteries enough to better deal with the routine.

August 4 is National Night Out Day, so here are a few suggestions!

1. Eat

A restaurant is probably most people’s first choice for going out. We all have our favorites, but taking a chance on a new place can be very rewarding, too!

2. Drink

Another very popular choice. Your local bar or brewpub is a great place to reconnect with friends.

3. Be Merry

When the shower or the car isn’t enough, grab the microphone and entertain a crowd!

4. Hit the Floor

Or let somebody else handle the music and get out there and dance!

5. Hit the Field

Join a pickup game or an intramural league. Or just head to the local stadium and root for your favorite team.
