My family is very non-traditional when it comes to Thanksgiving meals. That got started because, for the longest time, I couldn’t cook a decent turkey to save my life. Even after I mastered brining and basting, we still use the holiday to sample other cuisines.
No matter what’s on the menu, we are still traditional when it comes to listing the things we are most thankful for. It’s a good reminder that, whatever difficulties the year has brought, we can still be optimistic and grateful.
Here are some things that usually make our list:
They can drive you crazy sometimes, but you gotta love ‘em; they’re family.
The family you actually get to pick.
3. Good Food
Eating together is one of the best ways to connect with others.
4. Fall Flavors
Some foods just taste better when there’s a chill in the air.
5. Financial Security
I don’t think anyone ever has as much money as they want, but as long as you have what you need…
6. Good Job
Being a good provider is a huge part of our culture. Bonus if you really love what you do.
7. Good Health
Long or severe illnesses can be a huge drain on time, money, and energy. We’re always thankful when we stay healthy.
8. Coping Mechanisms
You can have and appreciate all of these things, but there are still the little annoyances to put up with. We all have ways of de-stressing.
It just makes everything better.
Here’s wishing you a happy Thanksgiving!
