That’s a Boy Scout term. It stands for “Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts,” which is the minimum you need for trail mix. The key to a good mix is balance. You want sweet and salty, crunchy and soft. Beyond that, it’s whatever you like to munch on. When I make mine, I use mixed nuts, raisins, M&Ms, dried strawberries, and sesame sticks. It’s a good blend that keeps my energy up without weighing me down.
August 31 is National Trail Mix Day, so throw your favorite munchies into a bag and get outdoors!
1. Be Original
There’s still a lot of wilderness out there. Go get lost in it! (Metaphorically.)
2. Chain Driven
Mountain biking is a great workout while you get to where you’re going.
3. Gravity? What Gravity?
My biggest takeaway from a year of rock climbing was that free climbers are crazy.
4. Boots on the Ground
It’s nice to get away from everything on occasion.
Geocaching combines the best of hiking, orienteering, and puzzle solving.
