If you’re of a certain age, you’ve probably got the Schoolhouse Rock song in your head now. Sorry about that.
The U.S. Constitution is the oldest written national constitution still in force today, serving as the foundation of our government for 230 years.
Not bad for a document containing only seven articles.
Okay, yes, it’s been amended a couple dozen times, but the fact that a procedure was put into place for just that sort of change is what makes it so flexible.
When asked what sort of government had been created, Benjamin Franklin famously replied “A republic, if you can keep it.” To that end, we owe thanks to all of the Supreme Court justices, attorneys, and legal scholars that make constitutional law their pursuit.
September 17 is Constitution Day. It isn’t celebrated with fireworks and cookouts like Independence Day, but it’s just as important. If you think individual rights and governmental checks and balances are vital, thank a lawyer!

It’s only four pages, but it covers a whole country.
2. Don’t Feed the Trolls
If your argument doesn’t come with a LexisNexis citation at minimum, don’t even bother typing it out.
3. Pay Attention this Time
Or keep paying legal bills. It’s up to you.
4. Don’t Panic
Your attorney should be #3 on your speed dial, after your mother and your best friend.
5. It’ll be fun, they said.
A few thousand new laws are created each year. Staying up to date in any specialty takes a lot of work. And a lot of coffee.
6. Attorney to Go
Between long meetings, commutes to the courthouse, and client after client after client, your favorite lawyer will appreciate the bigger cup.
7. All Together Now
If you don’t think this is true, try using a Beatles tune in your commercial or movie without paying for the rights.
8. 5:00 is when the real work starts.
Juries are much easier to convince than the average teenager.
Don’t forget the staff that makes sure the partners are prepared. They can definitely use the caffeine boost.
