The word “honeymoon” goes back to the fifth century. A newly wedded couple traditionally drank mead for the lunar month following the wedding, as it was believed to be an aphrodisiac.
Honey is known as a superfood. It contains antioxidants, is an anti-inflammatory, can promote faster wound healing, treat digestive upset, soothe coughs, and reduce allergic reactions. It never goes bad, and if it crystallizes, the container can be placed in hot water to liquefy it again.
Even if none of that was true, bees would still be a vital part of the food chain because they carry pollen from plant to plant, which enables growth. Many plants can only reproduce through this particular pollen delivery system.
August 15 is World Honeybee Day, so if you have a few hives in the backyard, enjoy honey, or just appreciate the work they do, you might enjoy some of these bee mugs!
