When someone hurts or angers us, our first instinct is to repay them in kind. That just leads to a spiral of pain and resentment. You’ve heard the expression “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.” Let’s try a different way. The next time someone hurts you, take a deep breath, wait a day before responding to that email, count to ten… whatever you need to do to calm down before replying. Give them the benefit of the doubt; maybe they’re just having a bad day.
